The holiday weekend brought a box office uptick to a handful of shows, including one making the earth move at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre. Beautiful: The Carole King Musical celebrated a gross back above $1 million, and at 99.68%, returned to the top five shows by capacity. The Broadway goliath Hamilton also took advantage of the end-of-summer crowds and brought in its largest revenue. Though some shows —including Aladdin and The Lion King—faced a small dip, which isn’t unusual for this particular holiday weekend, they still comprised the top five grossing shows, joining fellow usual suspects Wicked and The Book of Mormon. As for the coming weeks, expect grosses across the board to drop for some time, as is the norm post-Labor Day before incoming fall shows pick up steam.
